The Caprivi is a narrow strip of land in the far northeast of Namibia, about 400 kilometres long. The German Kaiser Reich exchanged the area with the United Kingdom for Zanzibar in 1890.
With our 12 Day Caprivi 4×4 Road Trip, you will embark on an extraordinary experience through the secluded and enchanting landscapes of the Caprivi area. Eco Ventures welcomes you to enjoy this African paradise’s unspoilt splendor.
It was named after the German chancellor of the time, Graf von Caprivi. The Caprivi is the wettest region in Namibia, not only for the high precipitation, but for its mighty rivers, Okavango, Kwando and Zambezi. All of them have their sources in Angola and drain an enormous area. The Caprivi has a few smaller rivers as well, the Linyanti and the Chobe.
The abundance of water in the Caprivi region supports huge herds of game. Particularly a great number of elephants. There is no fencing anywhere and the animals can roam freely, also into the neighbouring countries Botswana and Zambia.

Day 1: Departure
Passenger Pick up at Windhoek Airport, at 13:00, the day before we leave for The Caprivi, from Lion’s Den near Otjiwarondo via Rundu to Divindu.
Self-Drive can meet us at Lion’s Den Guest Farm near Otjiwarongo or in Windhoek

Otjiwarongo to Divindu
We leave Otjiwarongo via Grootfontein and Rundu to Divindu
The camp is situated in the unspoiled upper reaches of the Okavango Delta panhandle in the Western Caprivi strip, Kavango region, Namibia. The camp is set on an island under amazing trees with permanent river frontage and surrounded by seasonally flooded swamps. It is a paradise of wildlife and is nestled between Mahango National Park, a few km’s to the south, and Bwabwata National Park directly opposite, and across the Okavango River. Optional Sundowner cruise, on the Okavango River, before dinner in the camp.

Day 3
Breakfast at restaurant (own account). Leisurely day in camp with optional Mokoro Koro Trips, Sundowner Cruise. Game watching from camp is very rewarding with Hippo’s floating past and plenty of Elephants, Buffalo and other game, across the river and on the islands near from the camp.

Day 4
Morning Game Drive into Mahango Game Reserve, with a picnic brunch overlooking a Hippo Pool!
Last sundowners and dinner around our camp fire on the banks of the Okavango River.

Day5: Divindu via Katima Mulilo to Chobe
Leaving after breakfast at the Bar restaurant (own account) we leave via Bwabate National Park and Katima Mulilo for Camp Chobe. Chobe River Camp is situated on the banks of the Chobe River, assuring extraordinary experiences. This region is Namibia’s very own version of the Serengeti and offers a rare experience. With a bit of luck, you can see large herds of elephants, buffalo and antelope. Chobe River Camp is a wildlife and birder’s dream!
Optional Activities:
Hop aboard the river boats for early morning or late afternoon cruises on the Chobe River when the light slants to explore the channels and discover the diverse bird life.

Day 6: Relaxing day at camp
Optional Vic Falls Tour can be arranged.
Boat trips on the Chobe and Game Drives into Chobe National Park, can be arranged from the Lodge.

Day 7: Chobe to Kwando River
From Chobe Camp we drive to Katima Mulilo and after a visit to the famous toilet in a giant Baobab Tree we leave and drive via Linyati to Namusasha Camp on the Kwando River.
A visit to Livingstone Museum and meeting Linus, the caretaker is an enriching experience.
Namusasha campsites are situated on the grassy banks of the Kwando River under shady trees. Each campsite is equipped with private ablution blocks and power points.

Day 8
Relaxing game watching day with a drive into Susuwe National Park. We visit the ruins of the military camp – Camp Doppies, and Frik will tell the story of the well-known tame lion of the camp. Relaxing afternoon on the deck of the Lodge, overlooking a Hippo Pool or at camp. Hop aboard the river boats for early morning or late afternoon cruises on the Kwando River when the light slants to explore the channels and discover the diverse bird life. A visit to Namusasha provides an enriching adventure.

Day 9: Via Kongola and Divindu to Grootfontein
After exploring the Caprivi, we have to make our way home. Leave early and drive via Divindu and Rundu to overnight near Grootfontein.

Day 10: Grootfontein to Windhoek
Leave before breakfast for Windhoek Airport and your way home.
Arrive Windhoek Airport by 13:00.
