Together we discover this sparsely populated part of Namibia that fascinates travellers because of the possibility of seeing some of the rare desert elephants or black rhinos

Formerly known as Kaokaland, the fabulous mountains and the traditional Himbas add to the adventure of discovering Kunene, as it is now known. Damaraland is picture-perfect with highlights such as Twyfelfontain, with rock art, the Petrified Forest, and the Brand Berg.

Leave after breakfast via Tsumeb and Namutoni to Halai Camp. Relaxing afternoon and evening at the Halali waterhole

From Halai we drive via Olifants Bad waterhole to Okaukuejo Rest Camp where we camp for the next two nights. Relax at the teeming water hole.Ā  The water hole is lit at night and it is a photographer’s dream.Ā

Etosha National ParkĀ 

Early breakfast with coffee at the exceptional watering hole at the Okaukuejo Rest Camp. Optional game drive or relax at the swimming pool.Ā

Day5

Okaukuejo via Olifantsrus Camp to KamanjabĀ 

Drive along the mostly unknown western part of Etosha Park to a fairly new camp, Olifantsrus Camp.

Get up-close to the animals at the hide that overlooks a human-made waterhole.Ā 

After lunch we will continue through the Park and exit via Galton Gate.

Day 6

Kaoko Bush Lodge to Kunene River Lodge

Drive via Kamanjab and Ruacana to the Kunene River Lodge. Drive along the western border of the Etosha National Park, and along the Kunene River to our overnight destination on the banks of the Kunene River.Ā

Day 7

Kunene River Lodge to Epupa Falls

We drive along the Kunene River to Epupa FallsĀ  – visit the Dorsland Trekkers (Thirsty land) Monument and graves – interesting history. Experience Mopanieveld, Kremetart and Kanniedood trees.Ā  Zebra Mountains, with its characteristic stripes. Camp under massive Makalani Palms, on the banks of the Kunene river, right above the Epupa Falls.Ā

Day 8

Rest Day

Peaceful breakfast at the camp – we order Portuguese rolls from a Himba woman. Walk along the river downstream to see the full aspect of the Epupa falls. Massive Baobab trees cling to the rocky ledges. Optional visit to Himba kraal with a local guide andĀ  river rafting excursionsĀ

Day 9

Epupa Falls to Palmwag

Drive via Opuwo to Palmwag in the direction of Khorixas Kaoko Otavi – Dorsland trekkers church ruins. Look out for elephants and rhinos, along with other game, along the road before we arrive at PalmwagĀ  Lodge. Lookout for Jumbo, the resident elephant.Ā

Day 10

Ā Palmwag Lodge to Twyfelfontein and Damaraland

Namibia, land of contrasts! Today the landscapes change and we move into Damaraland. After breakfast we drive on the C43 via Palmwag and along the Aba-Huab Riverbed to ourĀ  Camp.Ā Ā 

Look out for game and Elephants

Day 11

Visit Petrified Forest and Twyfelfontein

After breakfast at the camp, we spend the day visiting all the interesting places in the vicinity. The petrified forest with the Brandberg in the background and Twyfelfontain with Bushman rock art. The Burnt Mountain with organ pipes. We ā€˜hunt’ for desert elephants in the Abu Hoab river bed.Ā

Day 12

Damaraland and Twyfelfontein to Terrace BayĀ  Ā 

We travel eastwards to Terrace Bay via Springbok Wasser entry gate. Brandberg disappears in the background as we near World’s End. Experience ancient Namib and visit an oasis in the desert where Gemsbok and Springbuck come to drink. Drive via Torra Bay to Terrace Bay. Before dinner,Ā 

we go for a walk on the beach, without any sea sand, only beautiful colourful stones!Ā

Day 13

Terrace Bay to Swakopmund

Breakfast at the restaurant, before we depart southwards, along the coast to Henties Bay.

Springbuck, jackals and strandwolves are regularly observed in the old Namib. We visit the pub in Henties Bay’s hotel and drive through the town to read all the interesting names of the houses.Ā

Relax in Swakopmund

Breakfast (included). Relax in Swakopmund – visit the Kristal Gallery, leather and carpet factory.Ā 

Excursions such as quad-biking in the dunes and para-gliding are available.
