An Eco Holiday Walk on gravel roads and foot paths through the Winelands, also known as the Boland. The Boland is situated in the green and fertile valleys formed by the splendid mountain ranges of the Western Cape. Historic towns of the Boland seem to be outside Africa. With gracious homesteads as well as orchards and vineyards heavy with fruit. It comprises mainly of the middle reaches of the Berg and Breede River Valleys –from Paarl, Wellington, and via Slanghoek to Robertson, McGregor, Franschoek and Stellenbosch

Day 1: Traveling Day

Meet at CPT International Airport at 15:00 for a transfer to Paarl

Accommodation and Dinner: Guest farm Accommodation (DB&B)

Day 2: Walking day, 18–20km

The “Big Walk” starts in Northern Paarl and into Paarl Mountain Reserve to the Taal Monument. Walk the picturesque landscape of fynbos vegetation, dominated by massive rounded granite rocks, set among ancient wild olives, rock candlewoods and wagon trees. Private Wine tasting at Paardeberg Wine Estate   

Dinner: Under Oaks Pizza restaurant, or similar   (own account)

Overnight& Dinner: Guest Farm Accommodation, Paarl  (DB&B)

Day 3: Walking Day 2, 18–20km

Walk on jeep tracks between Vineyards from Groenberg Primary (the oldest Afrikaans school) to Bosman’s Historic Cellar and learn about the story of ‘stokkiesdraai’. Follow the back roads, amongst orchards and vineyards to Doolhof. Transfer to Slanghoek via the historic and scenic Bainskloof Pass to overnight near Slanghoek on a Guest farm.

Day 4: Walking Day 3, 16-20km

Breakfast ‘run’ to Nuy on the Hill restaurant (own account) After breakfast walk the scenic route from Over Hex via ‘Agtervinkrivier’ to Rooiberg Cellar. Climb the biggest chair in Africa! Mountain scenery and vineyards all around you. Optional Wine tasting at Rooiberg Cellars and transfer to Robertson with winetasting at McGregor Cellar.                          

Accommodation: Fossil Hills Guest Farm – Pinotage House.(DB&B)

Day 5: Walking Day 4, 16-20km

Breakfast run on the farm and after breakfast walk the old picturesque road between Robertson and McGregor, the best preserved and most complete example of mid-nineteenth century townscape in the Cape Province. Time to explore the village with Pizza and Wine at Lords Private Cellar. Olive tasting before transfer back to Fossil Hills               

Overnight: Fossil Hills Guest Farm – Pinotage House. (DB&B)

Day 6: Walking Day 5, 16-18km

Leave before breakfast to Dwarsberg and walk the scenic route in the direction of Stettyn Dam. Picnic Breakfast overlooking mountain and fynbos scenery. A special wine tasting at

Deetlefs Wine Estate and transfer to Franschoek. Walk from the Huguenot Monument, through the village of Franschhoek for a special visit to the historic farm, La Motte. Transfer to Jonkershoek. From Jonkershoek walk to Coetzenburg, crossing a hanging bridge, to end the Winelands Eco Walk at the statue of Doc Craven and his dog Bliksem. 

Dinner: On the stoep of Stellenbosch Hotel or Bistro (own account) under huge Oak trees with an historical walk after dinner                                                                     

Overnight:  Guest Farm Accommodation (Bed)

Day 7: Traveling Day

Leave early for CPT International Airport

Highlights
